Light trails with Heian Shrine torii gate and Kyoto City Kyocera Art Museum (horizontal)
The gate was erected in 1928. The museum was rebuilt in time for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics...which drew no tourists because of the pandemic, even after a one-year delay to the Games. :(
Heian Shrine's torii gate rises behind trees at night
On this night, I realized how much of a difference a clear night sky makes. I love the blue tones in this shot.
Below Heian Shrine's torii gate at night
I've found that one fun way to use the 16mm lens I bought a few months ago is to get up close to a big subject to produce an unusual perspective.
Light trails with Heian Shrine torii gate and Kyoto City Kyocera Art Museum (vertical)
Certain parts of Kyoto are much quieter at night, even though they're just as impressive to view, albeit in a different way.
Foggy light trails passing through Heian Shrine torii gate
My experimentation with double long exposures included the use of a foggy filter.
Light trails passing through Heian Shrine torii gate
More experimentation with double long exposure and light trails. This turned out to be an excellent spot to practice, as I spent about two hours around this gate.
Smartphone on gimbal in Senbon Torii
A gimbal is a great way to shoot video while walking through the gates of Fushimi Inari Grand Shrine.
Smartphone shot of Senbon Torii
Fushimi Inari Grand Shrine is one of the most instagrammable spots in Kyoto.
Senbon Torii with glow in back
Taken a month to the day before individual foreign tourists were allowed back into Japan in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. Thus, it was not so hard to grab a shot of these gates without any photobombers.
Part of Fushimi Inari torii at entrance
The vermillion paint on this gate was particularly vivid on this gloriously sunny day.
Horai Garden at Matsuo Grand Shrine 2
This garden represents Mt. Horai, a common theme in Japanese gardens. According to classical Chinese mythology, the paradise is home to immortal humans with magical powers.
