Up in the mountains north of downtown Kyoto you'll find Sanzenin Temple. The gardens are home to some adorable child-like statues of Jizo, a Buddhist deity who protects children and travelers. The statue in this photo, sitting atop a moss-blanketed stone and wearing a hat of moss, seems to be the favorite, given how often it appears on Instagram.
