The gate was erected in 1928. The museum was rebuilt in time for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics...which drew no tourists because of the pandemic, even after a one-year delay to the Games. :(

I've found that one fun way to use the 16mm lens I bought a few months ago is to get up close to a big subject to produce an unusual perspective.

Certain parts of Kyoto are much quieter at night, even though they're just as impressive to view, albeit in a different way.
