A geisha walks down a street in Miyagawacho, one of Kyoto's five geisha districts. It is a quieter area of Gion that attracts far fewer tourists than the area along Hanamikoji Street. The geisha (or geiko in the Kyoto dialect) and maiko (apprentice geisha) who live in the boarding houses here often walk to nearby teahouses for performances of traditional music and dance or other events.
