Buck and does grazing in Nara Park
The less crowded south part of Nara Park is a nice place for dramatic shots of the deer if you have a telephoto zoom lens.

Hello!
Male deer rubs antlers on a tree
At first I thought this buck was shedding its antlers, but after some research online I'd say he is probably marking territory. I had no idea deer did that.
Mt. Ikoma and temple rooftop from Nigatsudo Temple
One of the best views in Nara. Mt. Ikoma has several broadcasting towers and a theme park on its peak.
Tourists take in the view from Nigatsudo Temple
From the terrace, you can see across northern Nara City all the way to Mt. Ikoma, one of the highest mountains in the area.
Nigatsudo Temple and stairs
There is a fire and water ceremony, the Omizutori, on March 12 here at this temple. I'd love to see it in person someday.
Puffy clouds over Nigatsudo
At this moment, the weather impressed me more than the buildings in this part of the Todaiji Temple complex. To the left is the roof of Nigatsudo, a smaller temple on the grounds.
Rice paddy at Todaiji Temple
Temples typically don't grow crops, but this rice paddy has a purpose. The temple uses the rice to make rice cakes for ceremonies.
Bell tower at Todaiji Temple
I'd been to Todaiji several times before, but I couldn't remember having seen this bell tower. You could spend all day exploring the extensive grounds of the temple, not just the Great Buddha Hall.
Doe on stairs in Nara
As I was changing lenses, this doe stood at my side, hoping I had a snack to give. I didn't so I tried to shoo her away, but she didn't take the hint until I finished and walked onward.

You can get very close to the deer in Nara Park.
